Another idea just look at feminism in disney as a whole and draw from this idea.

Disney as pinups.

Concept, ideas and research.

My FMP Concept is  : Expose stereotypes in a participial Disney approach.

My idea for this is to arrange a series of visuals of Disney characters and roles swapped around.

My Primary research is to engage with a certain social group such as Disney fans pages and collect a survey of opinions on Disney as a whole with a set of questions. Also i will watch the movies and take stereotypes and roles i see throughout the films myself just from watching them as a performance. My secondary research will be to collect a visual collection of gender norms in Disney along with throughout society in past to future. I will also look into how media exposure is used throughout the world.

Other extra will be things such as Disney style, body image, voices, merchandise, audience etc.

My D&AD Concept it : A journey into the future of communication.

My idea for this is a series of illustrations in a media which doesn’t yet exist/or looks like something we’d use in the future which will show future technology and the idea of telepathic communication used to transfer these ‘files’ to one another.

1.Telepathy idea, in the future we wont need computers and phones to send software, we can just send some kind of wave from brains to send these files to one another.

2.Install computers into the body to recieve data, devices are already small enough to fit inside our body but these tiny computers will allow us to communicate wirelessly without phones and computers.

3.We can store all memories and knowledge in your hard drive, Storage drivers will accompany you for the rest of your life which will allow you to run the memories anytime you desire.

4.communicate through thought transmission, Picking up thoughts and relaying them to another brain this “communication” should be understood to be electrical signals rather than words.

My Primary research – No idea hoped you could maybe help me with this.

My Secondary research will be to collect a visual collection of communication technology through time. I will also look into different illustrative styles and unusual ways which have already be used to present things graphically.

Body Shape Research

November 27, 2014 § Leave a comment

I took images from offline and used them to trace the basic body shaped used for females and men on Disney, the women are very skinny with tiny waists and big hips while the men have small waists with big chests and arms. This looks at the idea of how Disney uses body shape with the different genders.Untitled-1

Selfie Fables | what if disney stories have instagram – Artist research

November 27, 2014 § Leave a comment

I found this artist on behance who takes the Disney stories and turns there lives into images in the idea of what if they had instagram. I this idea and concept is really good, it links to the big social website craze we have nowheredays and makes the characters almost feel life like.

Other trends seen in illustration

Hand drawn typography

The hand-doodled look is not a new trend, but it definitely looks to stay strong for the next while… Especially when applied to typography. Designers continue to explore the textures of chalk, paint, pen and ink, sketchy lines and brushstrokes on paper backgrounds, blackboards, cardboard, and even cut out of paper. These illustrative techniques inject a playful human element into more traditional, computer generated fonts and typefaces.

Vintage illustration styles

While typical vector illustrations of cartoon characters and the Kawaii style remain popular, they aren’t the only trending styles out there. More and more we see illustrators emulating different vintage art techniques such as etching, engraving, scratchboard, silk screening, 1980s inspired pixel art, tattoo iconography, usually featuring a retro typeface to compliment the layout. Vintage illustration techniques put a unique stamp on a design.

Watercolor textures

Textures are a clever and easy way to add depth and character to any design. One of the latest textures catching the attention of designers is the use of watercolor paint washes (both raster and vectorized). Simple splatters and splashes can be used as design elements, while full washed backgrounds add a hand crafted feel.

Infographics

Infographics have been popping up all over the place for several years now. They’re the perfect way to present large amounts of data in a visually interesting and creative way. While infographics can be presented in virtually any illustrative style, we’re currently seeing ‘flat design’ and folded/stacked paper elements take off.

Paper effects

From origami folds to stacked paper cutouts, folded and layered paper effects are being seen on everything from website banners to infographics. Subtle shading effects add depth and dimension to otherwise flat objects in an illustration.

Abstract geometric backgrounds

Abstract backgrounds have always been widely used by designers. But we’re seeing a shift away from previously popular backgrounds such as abstract tech, arrows and grunge splatters. Designers are increasingly choosing geometric inspired backgrounds and patterns, often in a retro inspired color palette.

Icon trends: Lightweight, folded and flat

Flat, graphically simplified icon designs are all the rage right now. While there are many styles in demand, we’d like to look at three in particular: Super thin line weight icon sets, folded looking objects and ‘Flat designs’ with a diagonal shadow cast below each icon. The trend away from super shiny reflective ‘Aqua’ interface icons has been happening over the past several years, with designers moving towards flatter, more graphically simplified icons. The launch of iOS7 and a general increase in the screen resolution of mobile devices caused an explosion of super thin line weight designs.

Faceted effects

Breaking down objects into geometric polygons is all the rage. We’re seeing everything from portraits to alphabets shattered into triangular shapes, often in eye poppingly bright color variations. It’s a contemporary take on more traditional representational illustrations. There are a myriad of online plugins out there to help you get the look, just try searching for ‘triangulation’ or ‘pixellation’.

Vintage print techniques

Part of the current arts and crafts craze has to do with a growing number of illustrators mixing their tools and techniques, and adapting technologies to bring their styles onto the screen, rather than having the tools dictate what they can and can’t do. One particular off-shoot of all these cross-disciplined cross-pollinations is a big trend towards graphics inspired by vintage print technology. High contrast, halftoned, wood-block or silk screen inspired slabs of color are paired with the rich textures indicative of the pre-digital print era. The imperfections of these techniques brings a hand crafted feel to these styles.

2014 Trends in Illustration

Nautical Graphics

In 2014, Pinterest was swimming with anchors, buoys and whales. Nautical themes were everywhere over the summer.

Hand-Drawn Illustration

We are in the midst of one of the largest technical booms in human history, so it’s not surprising that people like graphic art that is drawn by hand or, at least, looks hand-drawn.

Hipster Illustrations

For better or worse, people love hipsters. From bicycles and deer to facial hair and horn-rimmed glasses, the hipster trend was everywhere. The trend appeals to youth who are turning away from the suburban world and moving back to the city. It also has a very big retro and vintage element that skims through the fashion of the past for the best of each era.

Watercolor Illustrations

We saw more computer-based art that didn’t resemble something made on a computer, even if it was crafted in Photoshop or Illustrator. Watercolor is one of the most common forms of painting and it gives a holistic feel to anything that is drawn in this medium. The colors blend and transition easily with one another.

Floral Graphics

This was one of the more refined trends of 2014, but it still has some country roots. Floral patterns can range from elegant wreaths arranged in intricate patterns to big, detailed blossoms. Flowers are such a romantic, yet everyday beauty that they add a lightness and elegance when used as a background or frame but have enough presence to work as a great centerpiece.

Friendly Monsters

If popular television has shown us anything, it’s that 2014 loved zombies, werewolves and all sorts of creepy creatures. In the illustration world, this trend plays itself out in a much more lighthearted way with colorful, smiling monsters that look fairly harmless and often quite funny.

The Great Outdoors

What better trend to end on than nature? It’s a good way to sum up how these popular design trends reflect our culture in 2014. We spend so much of the day focusing on a screen that it’s no wonder people want to get outdoors. Realistic trees and flowers, along with animal and forest prints, were very popular. They bring a sense of peace to our often-hectic world.

Printing

Risograph

Risograph is a high-speed digital printing system manufactured by the Riso Kagaku Corporation and was designed mainly for high-volume photocopying and printing. It was released in Japan in August 1986. Increasingly, Risograph machines have been commonly referred to as a RISO Printer-Duplicator, due to their common usage as a network printer as well as a stand-alone duplicator. When printing or copying multiple quantities (generally more than 20) of the same origin, it is typically far less expensive per page than a conventional photocopier, laser printer, or inkjet printer.

Screen Printing

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil to receive a desired image. The attached stencil forms open areas of mesh that transfer ink or other printable materials which can be pressed through the mesh as a sharp-edged image onto a substrate. A fill blade or squeegee is moved across the screen stencil, forcing or pumping ink through the mesh openings to wet the substrate during the squeegee stroke. Basically, it is the process of using a mesh-based stencil to apply ink onto a substrate, whether it be t-shirts, posters, stickers, vinyl, wood, or other material.

Screen printing is also a stencil method of print making in which a design is imposed on a screen of polyester or other fine mesh, with blank areas coated with an impermeable substance. Ink is forced into the mesh openings by the fill blade or squeegee and onto the printing surface during the squeegee stroke. As the screen rebounds away from the substrate the ink remains on the substrate. It is also known as silkscreen, serigraphy, and serigraph printing. One color is printed at a time, so several screens can be used to produce a multicoloured image or design.

Presentation for poster

November 21, 2014 § Leave a comment

After presenting my poster idea and showing what i had done so far it helped a lot with my research and how I can improve it. Instead of asking any person in general i need to look at a target audience. This could be someone who is in the fan base of Disney by instead posting my questions on a Disney fan base to get there answers and have the same kind of people and social group answer the questions. They are the main target audience for my project and it should look at there opinions so now i am going to perfect my questionnaire and post it onto Disney fan bases and then maybe post another questionnaire on another group such as feminist and compare there answers. This gives me a better understanding and lets me be able to compare data with a Disney fan and then a feminist. Also I am going to stick with this data visual book for my research but maybe look at different media such as risograph printing and so on.
